We went to an Auburn kickoff this week and it was packed! The kids had fun (it doesn't take much most days)... The boys are doing well. Bo has his one-year check up tomorrow (a month late - our doctor was booked solid).

Today is my friend Amy's birthday. Amy is one of the funniest people I know - I can't think of anyone deserving a better birthday... I was reminiscing about my 30th... Gas was averaging $2.22 a gallon... It was considered by CNN to be a hardship on folks in 2005. Wow.
Anyway, she has her own blog where she recently started noting a top five in her post. She has had everything from what's in her I-Pod to what books she's reading. I'd like to do a tribute post to her and note my favorite crayon colors from when I was a child.
1. Cornflower Blue (why? it's just that awesome)
2. Carnation Pink (I'd love a carnation pink room in my house, but I am too outnumbered!)
3. Lemon Yellow (had a yellow room growing up... still like it)
4. Green (straight up - regular green)
5. White (who didn't love it on dark blue construction paper?!)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMY!
Row, Row, Row Your Boat
John took the boys out in the canoe last night after dinner. They each have their own paddle now (and the paddles float) so there is much less bickering. I also LOVE Bo's face in this picture (minus the somewhat still busted lip and pasta sauce). I don't think I mentioned Bo's run in this weekend. The first time was the pavement at the park (which took care of his forehead and chin). The second was the sidewalk in front of a mexican restaurant (which effectively busted his lip). John was about to take the big guys to see Wall-E. We had to go buy a shirt for him since there was so much blood from the busted lip on his shirt. Awful.

I will probably regret this
Okay - so it does look more like a pumpkin. We were convinced it was a watermelon when it was growing. Anyway - I've heard some grumbling about an Auburn grad being unable to tell the difference between a pumpkin and a watermelon. Well, I know who you are... It's a good thing you have a cute son and he and Bo are friends :)

What the heck is that?
My prize watermelon from the garden is apparently some kind of pumpkin-watermelon hybrid freaky fruit. I was so excited to see it growing. I took pictures of it and was positively giddy when we harvested it. I almost set up a show and tell in the driveway just so neighbors could admire the fruit.
Working late on Tuesday, I get this call from John.
J: Hey........ yeah, um, the watermelon... well, I cut it open.
L: Is it sweet? I am so excited.
J: It's a pumpkin.
L: WHAT?
J: It's a pumpkin.
L: It can't be. It's green. It's shaped like a watermelon. It's supposed to be a watermelon!
J: Well, it's a pumpkin.

I am not ashamed

I love ABBA. That's right, the band from the 70s is having a revival of sorts with the release of 'Mamma Mia' in a week. I can't get behind the movie - it's like having The New Kids on the Block cover The Beatles.
Anyway - we have Sirius satellite radio and I can't get enough of the temporary ABBA channel. I have been driving with the windows down singing some of their more obscure hits as loudly as I can muster. What a wonderful commute this week.
I will just have to enjoy the music while I can on the radio and then make sure my downloads are ready on my I-Pod. And I'll do it all while sporting my new Tab shirt. I love being retro.

Updates all around
Greetings! Jack is doing much better. He had some trouble coming off the pain medicine, but seems almost back to himself. Drew is continuing to practice and improve his bicycle riding skills and Bo is into everything. He has this new trick where he screeches 'MAAAAAMA'. We know he is up to something - either up the stairs or stuck in an inconspicuous place. It's hilarious.
Other than that, we had a nice 4th of July... We got to go to a festival at Drew's school and enjoyed the fireworks that evening.

Jack vs. the Tonsils
Jack has handled the surgery extremely well... It's actually hard to keep him resting - even with the pain medication they've prescribed. No effect.
We are trying to keep him as still as possible throughout the day and looking forward to the 4th this Friday!
