The Storm of the Century (as it is still apparently billed for the damage it did in Alabama and along the entire eastern seaboard) began 15 years ago today.
My recollection is sitting in a house with little provisions (my mom - who reads this blog avidly - didn't believe in stocking up for storms), no heat or power for days (four I think??) and my family (mom, dad and oldest sister). Never EVER has a turkey meatball with fruit cocktail tasted so good. It was crazy. I love snow, but that was above and beyond what is do-able.
As a conclusion, my parents had gas logs installed in the fireplace and I don't eat fruit cocktail much anymore... At least the company throughout the storm was good. I vividly remember Katie entertaining us by candlelight (while we were freezing our rears) with her guitar. I think it turned into a singalong. Wow.

Wow - I remember that (I'm getting old)!! I remember we were at my dad's for the weekend and he never lost power. My mom was home by herself with the dog and cat with no power and little firewood. We didn't get power back for over a week and I can remember going to Shoney's to get a decent breakfast and get ready for school! Yes we didn't get power back until things had gotten back to "normal" as far as openings, etc!
I don't remember that all, but then again, in FL we only remember hurricanes! If by some chance we had a snow storm I would definitely remember that and be worried about global warming!
Yes, I do remember that! And yes, Liesa, I too, was freezing my rear off! I had a lab and a cat in my bed to help keep me warm. I chopped up a toy chest for firewood and a neighbor started putting firewood on the end of my front porch when he realized I had none. The generosity of good neighbors! Then when the roads were finally opened, Dottie Sawyer let me come over to take a warm bath...and even served fresh coffee! The things I remember! Thanks for stirring some good memories of "Aunt Dottie!"
